Lexington Vintage Dance – Turn-of-the-Century and Ragtime Dancing
Friday, July 28th | 6:00pm - 7:00pmFree
The ballroom was “dancing mad!” Come join the Lexington Vintage Dancers as they lead you through the changes in ballroom dance from the 1890’s to the years just before World War I.
The marches of John Philip Sousa were perfect for the new American two-step. The Grizzly Bear and Turkey Trot were fads. Ragtime music and the tunes of Tin Pan Alley provided dancers with new inspiration. The years 1911-1914 saw an explosion of dancing – the waltz survived and foxtrot took hold. It was an exciting time on the dance floor!
Lexington Vintage Dance is dedicated to researching, teaching, performing, and promoting the ballroom and social dance forms of the 19th and early 20th century.
Come have fun and enjoy the interplay of dance, history, music, and beautiful costumes.
